What is the damage caused by Muslims not having a leader?
World states have their presidents, religions have their spiritual leaders, Orthodox churches have their patriarchs, Roman Catholics have their Pope, Anglicans have their Archbishops, Jews have their Rabbis, Buddhists have their Dalai Lamas, Masonic lodges have their Masters, political parties have their leaders, corporations have their presidents and big companies have their CEO’s . In short, in every community there is a leader, a head. A military unit cannot exist without a commander. A ship cannot sail without a captain. The hive would be scattered without the queen bee. Even ants have a leader. There is no activity without a leader in any community life. Being without a leader means anarchy and conflict. It means division and crawling. This is because it is the only way to maintain the existence and livelihood of reason, perception and foresight. EVERY ORGANIZATION, EVERY RELIGION, EVERY COMMUNITY, EVERY SOCIETY HAS A HEAD (PRESIDENT): THE ONLY EXCEPTION IS THE ISLAMIC WORLD, BECAUSE TODAY MUSLIMS HAVE NO LEADER.
Allah Commanded in the Qur’an that Muslims Should Unite and Have a Leader
Today 1.5 billion Muslims live in the world. However, Muslims have not had any head or spiritual leader whom they could follow for some time. Our mighty religion Islam has advanced in time and became stronger but lack of a leader has harmed the ummah. Muslims have become separated among themselves and religious, political, economic and cultural cooperation was not established among Muslims. The actions taken were weak initiatives of no avail. Thus the system of the dajjal (anti-christ) has taken advantage of this separation and taken the world of Islam under captivity. However, the anti-christ way to establish this New World Order was : “Divide and Rule!”
However Allah commands Muslims to be united in the Qur’an: “You who have faith! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in command among you. If you have a dispute about something, refer it back to Allah and the Messenger, if you have faith in Allah and the Last Day. That is the best thing to do and gives the best result.” (Surat an-Nisa’, 59) Our Prophet Mohammad (saas) says, “A person who dies before submitting to the Commander in his time dies as an unbeliever”. All reliable Islamic sources also remark that it is obligatory for Muslims to choose an Imam in Command as their leader. So Allah reveals there must be a spiritual leader at the head of the ummah.
However, when we look at the world of Islam, there are tens of thousands of communities, sects and factions that act independently. Most of them are not united but in conflict. Muslims are oppressed, crushed and martyred everywhere. Muslims do not help one another completely. One million Muslims being martryed in Iraq, Afghanistan being occupied for years, Muslim blood being shed in Syria, Palestine and Arakan; what has happened in Burma is a clear indication of this unity and cooperation not being established. However, if the world of Islam came together with the help of a spiritual leader and united their forces, Muslims would never be in this situation. Most Muslims without a leader have formed bigoted attitudes by coming to his own understanding of religion; sects and groups have become the center of the truth and developed an attitude that externalizes and demonizes all other Muslim groups. They have emphasized their differences instead of their common direction according to the Qur’an. However, all Muslims must come together and form the greatest power: the Islamic Union.
It Is No Solution That Muslims Unite to Form Organizations
While Muslims are martyred by being massacred every day and fight against hunger and poverty, these organizations should have been able to protect the life, possessions and honor of the Islamic world. Yet the fact remains that the most prominent scholars, directors and the most distinguished people of countries come together to form organizations and organize large meetings that fail to produce any results. When we look at history, many distinguished people or communities have made great efforts, politically or intellectually, in order to realize the Islamic Union. Islamic Union formulas such as a union at the helm of a delegation of representatives from Islamic countries, or a confederation or EU-like organization were elaborated very recently but no results were obtained because a body without a head is dead. The person who can resurrect a dead body saying “kum biiznillah” by Allah’s leave is a spiritual leader with perspective and foresight about whom everyone is in agreement, who will apply and enforce all commands of the Qur’an, who will teach people love, friendship, brotherhood, peace and sacrifice and who will promote art, science, aesthetics. The world of Islam will not rise unless there is such a leader.
Sectarian Conflicts Take Place in An Islamic World With No Spiritual Leader
The world of Islam began 2013 with conflicts in Syria, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and throughout the Middle East region. The struggle for power in Bahrain is between the Shia and the Sunnis. Those who hold demonstrations for democratic rights in the Eastern sections of Saudi Arabia are citizens of Shia origin. The followers of the sectarian groups producing ever-growing tension since the beginning of the 2000s in Lebanon are the Shiite Hizbullah and the Sunni Hariri groups. There has been a significant increase in the number of attacks that are directly aimed at Shia civilians shortly after the USA withdrew from Iraq. There are similar problems in Yemen, Lebanon and other countries where Sunnis and Shia live together. For example, in Pakistan, approximately 20 people have lost their lives in an attack organized against Shia who came together for Erbain ceremonies. In this regard, there are examples more tragic and horrific than the incidents in Syria.
The Only Solution to Eliminate Corruption in the World of Islam Is to Unite Around a Leader
The only solution to these problems, which arise among believers in the world of Islam and which cause bloodshed among brothers, is a spiritual leader who is the greatest mujtahid and the greatest mujaddid and judge leading the Islamic world. These conflicts will not end in any other way.
As revealed in the hadith: THERE IS A CORRUPTION AND OTHER CORRUPTIONS FOLLOW THIS AND SCOURGES THE FIRST AND THE LAST TURNING IN TO CONFLICT WITH SWORDS AND AFTER THIS A CORRUPTION COMES WHERE ALL HARAMS WILL BE ACCEPTED AS HALALS. THEN CALIPHATE (SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP OF MUSLIMS) WILL COME TO HAZRAT MAHDI (AS) WHO IS THE MOST FAVORABLE OF THE WORLD WHEN HE IS SITTING AT HIS HOME.” (Al-Qawl al-Mukhtasar fi Alamat al-Mahdi al-Muntadhar, p.26) putting an end to the problems in Muslim countries due to the lack of a leader and the establishment of peace, comfort and safety – which people long for and need – is only possible by uniting aroung a leader. A lasting, completely satisfactory and genuine solution can only be achieved by following the path shown by Allah and the Messenger (saas). The solution showed by Allah and the Messenger (saas) is the unification of the whole Islamic world around a spiritual leader and establishment of the Turkish Islamic Union. This the system of the Mahdi must be kept on the agenda constantly and Muslims must pray to Allah to send Hazrat Mahdi (as).
The whole Islamic world must look for and find Hazrat Mahdi (as) and ensure that the world is in peace, harmony and comfort thanks to him. It is important not to forget that the emergence of Hazrat Mahdi (as) and the sovereignty of the moral values of Islam is the destiny preordained by Allah. Whether people support Hazrat Mahdi (as) or not, Allah will make him successful, abolish all the corruption of the unbelievers with his help and the moral values of Islam will come to prevail. Therefore, everyone who intends to become one of the helpers of Hazrat Mahdi (as), who strives for this end, who wants the Turkish Islamic realm to unite, who intellectually struggles in order to save Muslims oppressed all over the world actually strives for his own inner self. As our Lord reveals in Surat al-‘Ankabut; “Whoever struggles does it entirely for himself. Allah is Rich Beyond Need of any being.” (Surat al-‘Ankabut, 6)
Muslim Are Martyred in the World of Islam Without a Leader
100,000 Muslims – who form 15 percent of the population of Myanmar – have recently lost their lives. Since June more than 1,000 Muslims have lost their lives in incidents that took place in Myanmar and more than 90,000 Muslims became homeless. The 1.5 million Muslims who live in this region are still in danger of genocide.
1.2 million people have lost their lives in Iraq since 2003. 4.5 million people were forced to leave their homes.
In Afghanistan, 20,000 civilians have lost their lives within the first four months of the American occupation and this number has increased gradually every year. Civilians are still killed in bombings and millions of Afghans try to survive at refugee camps under the hunger threshold and in very harsh conditions.
35 million Uyghur Turks have lost their lives in East Turkestan until today.
In Palestine, there were 950,000 Palestinians living in almost 500 cities, towns and villages; this number has decreased to only 138,000 . In this way, approximately 400 Palestinian villages were wiped off the map. (Currently the number of Palestinians living as refugees in camps in neighboring countries like Lebanon and Jordan is 3.5 million.)
During the war in Chechnya, that nation lost three fourths of its population in two years.
In Bosnia, Muslims were systematically exterminated in an example of genocide; 300,000 Muslims were martyred.
There were three major massacres in Kashmir in 1947, 1965 and 1971. Tens of thousands of Muslims in Kashmir were martyred; more than 4,000 women were tortured and raped.
In Patani, an autonomous region dependent on Thailand, about seven or eight Patani citizens are being martyred by Thai soldiers on a daily basis. Under martial law in the region for the last three years, more than 400 people were lost, almost 2,300 people were martyred andalmost 4,000 people were arrested for unlawful reasons. To this day, 30,000 people are being held in concentration camps.
Incidents continue to take place in may countries like Iraq, Yemen, Bahrain, Egypt and Tunusia.
For some parts of the Muslim world, pain and suffering is not coming from the outside world but there are conflicts among Muslims with different ethnic backgrounds, different sectarian views and different cultures –which is completely against the moral values of the Qur’an. One must think deeply about the situation that Muslims with the same Allah, same religion, same Book, same Prophet – who need to be brothers and sisters with the command of Allah – are in conflict with one another, because according to the Qur’an, it is a religious obligation for believers to be united: In one verse it is revealed as such: “Hold fast to the rope of Allah all together, and do not separate. Remember Allah’s blessing to you when you were enemies and He joined your hearts together so that you became brothers by His blessing. You were on the very brink of a pit of the Fire and He rescued you from it. In this way Allah makes His Signs clear to you, so that hopefully you will be guided.” (Surah Al ‘Imran, 103)

inAll Muslims should live according to the ethics Allah revealed in the Qur’an. However fair and just Muslims are in their everyday life, their business affairs, or in their personal relationships, they must demonstrate the same values during times of war, while defending themselves, or even while being driven from their lands. They must still put themselves in Allah’s hands, obey Allah’s laws, and adhere strictly to His instructions.
The word “Islam” has the same meaning as the word “peace” in Arabic. The Qur’an calls people to the ethics of Islam, through which the world can be made a haven for peace and love. Allah commands us to rule justly and without discriminating among people, to preserve people’s rights, oppose cruelty, and help those in need. This justice requires each Muslim to protect the rights of both parties, evaluate events objectively, and think without bias. It requires justice, honesty, love, mercy, and compassion.
As Allah reveals in the Qur’an: “O you who believe! Show integrity for the sake of Allah, bearing witness with justice. Do not let hatred for a people incite you into not being just. Be just, for that is closer to heedfulness. Fear Allah. Allah is aware of what you do.” (Surat al-Ma’ida, 8), true Muslims must not let their decisions or practices be tainted by such feelings as resentment, hatred, and rage. Muslims must always conduct themselves according to the Qur’an, behave with patience and restraint, and avoid exaggerated responses. As Allah reminds: “We will test you with a certain amount of fear and hunger and loss of wealth and life and fruits. But give good news to the steadfast.” (Surat al-Baqara, 155). Thus, given that this life on Earth is merely a trial, we must never forget that Allah tests His believers with war, attack, oppression, and all manner of difficulties. The most important thing is for Muslims to respond to such trials in a manner that pleases Allah and always to behave in accord with Islamic teachings and principles.
Thus the Palestinians must remember, as they respond to Israel, that every difficulty they endure is really a test of their faith. In addition, they must strictly adhere to Allah’s ethics, justice, and commands not to overstep their bounds. They must follow only those opposition methods revealed in the Qur’an. The result of such an intellectual struggle is most certainly salvation, for “Allah only did this for it to be good news for you and so that your hearts might be set at rest by it. And victory is not except from Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.” (Surah Al ‘Imran, 126)
The verse: “Allah does not forbid you from being good to those who have not fought you in the religion or driven you from your homes, or from being just toward them. Allah loves those who are just.” (Surat al-Mumtahana, 8) describes how the Palestinians must behave toward civilians as they oppose the Israeli government. In the Qur’an, Allah forbids killing innocent people, unarmed women, children, and the elderly. The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) gave specific orders to his commanders going to war, and warned them not to harm civilians.
In the last few years, however, some Palestinians have carried out bombings against civilian settlements occupied by unarmed civilians, children, women, and the elderly. These attacks have made targets of a cafeteria, a school bus, and places where teenagers hang out, and have resulted in dozens of civilian deaths. According to Israeli reports from various news agencies, suicide bombings since September 2000 have killed 30 Israeli children and injured 272 more. Out of 177 Israelis killed, 128 were civilians; out of 1,743 Israelis injured, 1,216 were civilians. (“Palestinian Terrorism – The Israel Side,” Bridges for Peace Website, http://www.bridgesforpeace.com/public ations/dispatch/signsoftimes/Article- 2.html.) These attacks provoked a strong reaction throughout the world and did more harm than good to the Palestinian cause. Even those in the West who had opposed Israel’s pro-violence policy were forced to condemn the Palestinians and withdraw their support.
Obviously, such attacks cannot be excused. As explained above, such a method is absolutely inconsistent with Islam. When we examine the Qur’an and the Prophet’s (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) actions, we find that Islam does not support attacks against civilians. Whether during the conquest of Mecca or during other wars, the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) carefully protected the rights of innocent and unarmed people and prevented them from being harmed. He reminded Muslims of this on various occasions by telling them: “Set out for war in the name of Allah and for the sake of Allah. Do not lay hands on the old verging on death, on women, children and babies. Do good, for Allah loves the virtuous and the pious.” (Sahih Muslim Hadiths) Another reminder is:
“Do not kill any old person, any child or any woman.” (Abu Dawud Hadiths)
“Do not kill the monks in monasteries” (Musnad of Ibn Hanbal Hadiths) or “Do not kill the people who are sitting in places of worship.” (Musnad of Ibn Hanbal Hadiths)
As shown in the hadiths, Muslims must struggle in conformity with the Qur’an. In other words, their struggle must be just, compassionate, and free of extremism. Muslims should oppose both tyranny and barbarism, and all forms of injustice. Another verse reports that they must always be on the side of peace and compromise:
If they incline to peace, you too incline to it and put your trust in Allah. He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. (Surat al-Anfal, 61)
Muslim’s stand on the subject of Israel and the Jews must also be in line with these basic principles. Muslims who live in accordance with the Qur’an must have an unbiased view of the Jews.
Jews believe in Allah’s Oneness and follow a religion Allah revealed through His messengers. Moreover, the Qur’an refers to them as People of the Book. They embrace many values, based on Allah’s revelation, as well as the concepts of sin, haram (prohibited) and halal (allowed). In the Qur’an, one can see that there was a friendly relationship between Muslims and the People of the Book. For this reason, if one of the People of the Book cooks some food, Muslims can eat it and vice-versa, and Muslim men can marry their women. These commands show that warm neighborly and even family ties can be established among Jews, Christians, and Muslims, and that they can accept each other’s invitations. Another verse calls for the two groups to unite, based upon a common word for belief (Surah Al ‘Imran, 64).
For these reasons, Muslim communities historically have behaved moderately and compassionately toward the People of the Book. This situation is especially evident in the Ottoman Empire, which accepted the Jews exiled by Catholic Spain at the end of the fifteenth century and allowed them to live peacefully in the empire.
Allah does not forbid you from being good to those who have not fought you in the religion or driven you from your homes, or from being just toward them. Allah loves those who are just. Allah merely forbids you from taking as friends those who have fought you in the religion and driven you from your homes and who supported your expulsion. Any who take them as friends are wrongdoers. (Surat al-Mumtahana, 8-9)
Justice and moderation also should be shown toward followers of non-monotheistic faiths and toward those with no faith at all, both of which are far more distant to Muslims. According to the Qur’an, Muslims have an obligation to protect all, even idolaters, and to ensure they reach their destination safely when they so request.
If any of the idolaters ask you for protection, give them protection until they have heard the words of Allah. Then convey them to a place where they are safe. … (Surat at-Tawba, 6)
Muslims with a responsibility to ensure the safety of all, even idolaters, must obviously be affectionate and understanding toward the People of the Book, who believe in the One Allah, are loyal to the prophets and have the concept of lawful and forbidden. Simply put, Muslims who are sincere in their religion, obey Allah, and respect the Qur’an can neither nurture animosity toward Jews just because of their religion and beliefs, nor treat them with hostility just because they are Jews.
When discussing attacks on Israeli citizens, the Islamic view of suicide also must be examined. Some people are gravely misinformed about Islam, believing that this religion of peace permits suicide bombings; nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, Islam forbids a Muslim from taking his or her life, just as it forbids taking somebody else’s life. Allah explicitly condemns suicide: “do not kill yourselves” (Surat an-Nisa’, 29), regardless of the reason. The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) also told his Companions that suicide leads one to eternal damnation:
Whoever purposely throws himself from a mountain and kills himself will be in the (Hell) Fire falling down into it and abiding therein perpetually forever. Whoever drinks poison and kills himself with it, he will be carrying his poison in his hand and drinking it in the (Hell) Fire, wherein he will abide eternally forever. Whoever kills himself with an iron weapon will be carrying that weapon in his hand and stabbing his abdomen with it in the (Hell) Fire, wherein he will abide eternally forever. (Sahih Bukhari Hadiths)
As explained in the hadith, committing suicide and engaging in suicide bombings – not to mention killing innocent people thereby – violates the Qur’an’s ethics. Every Muslim should condemn these incidents, which cast a pall upon the Palestinians’ rights.
It must not be forgotten that those who compel Palestinian youths to engage in such unjust and irrational behavior are also pulling Israeli and Palestinian youths into an endless cycle of bloodshed and retribution. These ongoing suicide bombings destroy these young people’s futures and that of the land itself. The young people who strap on explosives and detonate them among civilians are being destroyed on a road that will never lead to success. And it is essential for this method, which is incompatible with the Qur’an, to be condemned by all Muslims.
Any mode of struggle outside of the Qur’anic value system – for example, the guerilla tactics envisaged by communist ideology – is not correct and cannot succeed. For this reason, the current situation must be evaluated sensibly and realistically, and a method consistent with Qur’anic values must be devised.
The Palestinians can only attain the rights and peaceful lives they demand through a campaign waged on the level of ideas and supported by a very powerful educational project. For this, the Palestinians need a strong team of educated and cultured individuals who are aware of legal, diplomatic, and international policies, and who conduct themselves according to the ethics of the Qur’an.
Of course there are a great many highly cultured, open-minded intellectuals among the Palestinian people. The important thing is the work these intellectuals will engage in to raise the consciousness of the young, turn them in the right direction and defend the Palestinian cause before the people of the world. This work could play an important role in raising the Palestinians’ awareness of true Islamic ethics, raising the level of education, and helping them to explain their rights to the world.
At present a very different picture of the Palestinian people is being presented to the world, a picture totally at variance with the truth. The Palestinian cause is suffering serious damage on account of the irrational attacks, incompatible with Islamic values, being carried out by a few fanatics or subversive groups who oppose peace with violence. In the same way that this harm is expressed by many intellectuals, it is also described by commentators in various countries, including Turkey. The daily Zaman writer Kerim Balci, who lives in Palestine, drew attention to this in one of his articles:
Not only are the suicide attacks a violation of fundamental Islamic values, they also damage the Palestinian cause. Not just me, but rational thinking Palestinians say the same thing … The Palestinian cause is a problem of the whole Islamic world. Those at the head of this movement cannot act in the light of their own personal interests, out of a desire for revenge and a concern over honor and pride. The militants who kill innocent Jewish children in Palestine may well believe they are serving Islam. Yet all of their actions do is to make things much more difficult for those people who are trying to repair the damage done to the Muslim image all over the world … It is blatantly evident that attacks of this kind benefit Israel much more than Palestine. (Zaman Turkish Daily, 15 September 2002.)
There are even those Palestinians who, ignorant of the true Qur’anic morality, may participate in these provocations without realizing the nature of what they are doing.
Given this, a great education force must be mobilized and spread among all Palestinians, particularly the young ones, to stamp out this ignorance and fanaticism and to teach them the true values of the Qur’an. Schools, universities, and mass education campaigns can help to raise their awareness and will be the greatest possible contribution. We say this because when these people recognize the true Islam revealed in the Qur’an, when they learn that Islam is a religion of peace and reconciliation, when they comprehend world politics with the consciousness brought by the Qur’an, they will understand that suicide bombings and killing innocent people in cafeterias or on buses are not only wrong, but are not a solution. It is far easier to reach a solution through compassion and reconciliation, rational policies, a worldwide diplomatic initiative, and an intellectual struggle that is consistent with the Qur’an’s moral values.
The many wars of the twentieth century, as well as the numerous incidents that have inaugurated the twenty-first century, clearly show that violence cannot undo violence, and that brutality cannot undo brutality. The only way to stop violence is for the virtues of the Qur’an’s ethics – humility, compassion, reconciliation, and rationality – to prevail upon people’s thoughts and actions, and on the entire world.

inThe Islamic world is wide-spread not only in its geography, but in its various traditions. However, when we look at the world of Islam today, a general coarsening has taken place. At one time, Muslims were regarded as people of good character; in the Middle Ages, Saladin was regarded by the Crusaders, including Richard the Lionhearted, as a wise and noble figure worthy of respect. Islam led the world in the sciences, the arts and literature. Now when we gaze upon the Islamic world, we see a degraded culture where shabby-looking men are held up as saints, where beautiful women are commanded by bigots to conceal their beauty, and where unkempt women are held up as paragons of virtue by the very nature of their appearance, as though having bad skin and uncombed hair somehow makes you pious.
It goes without saying that many, especially in the West, look at bedraggled men with long and disheveled beards, wearing rags and semi-literate, as examples of Islam. This occurs because the media has made them so, and these particular men love nothing more than to claim to speak for the whole of the Islamic world. But it is not only in the West that this has happened; in the Islamic world, far too many Muslims see these same men and think to themselves, “Why, look! He wears filthy rags, and has a long and ungroomed beard. Surely this is a holy man!” Or they see a woman in stylish clothes, wearing makeup or having her hair uncovered, and the immediate reaction of far too many is, “Why, this woman is a prostitute, a Jezebel!” This kind of foolish thinking is unfortunately commonplace in the Islamic world.
So how has it come to this? How is it that music, art and beauty is condemned, when music, art and beauty are gifts from God? Why are these gifts, which uplift and elevate the mind and soul, looked upon as curses from the devil himself?
Perhaps it is because we have allowed petty and small-minded provincials with peculiar ideas to rule the discussion for too long. We have allowed these people to enjoy a cultural dictatorship, a “tyranny of moral busybodies,” as the Christian writer C.S. Lewis so eloquently said. We have allowed them to become cultural arbiters. And the results? A world without joy or beauty. A world where those men and women who wish to share the talents given to them by God are told their gifts are sins. What madness is this? Truly, a world in which there is no appreciation of beauty and aesthetics is little more than a manifestation of Hell itself.
There is nothing from the Quran that prohibits music or the arts. It is mistaken to say, “The Quran prohibits music!” This is bid’ah, or heresy, and those who introduce such things are committing a sin. As it says in the Quran, “Say, ‘Do you see that which God hath provided for you — you make some of it unlawful (haram) and some of it lawful?'” “Say, ‘Did God allow you to do this, or do you tell lies about God?'” (10: 59).
Our Prophet was a man of fine appearance and attribute, and he had an aesthetic appreciation for beauty. He used to grow roses around his house, and in a desert environment growing almost anything is a difficult task. At that time there existed a fragrant oil and our Prophet used to use olive oil as well as that oil mixed with a beautiful smelling rose extract; he used to wear this in his hair as a brilliantine, and it made him appear more youthful. It is said his clothes, his frock and shirt were white and always kept clean and in good repair. His teeth (owing to the use of a miswak, a natural toothbrush) were white and clean. All of these descriptions of his appearance come from the hadiths. All these descriptions are notably different from what we so often see, and all are notably different from what we see in Muslim extremists as well.
So to my fellow Muslims, please do not allow yourselves to fall into the trap of thinking that by looking shabby and scowling, that this makes you a more devout Muslim. Do not fall prey to the notion that forbidding music or art or beauty is somehow the commandment of God. Do not think for one moment that by treating your wife as an object of scorn or contempt, or as your occasional beast of burden when you go to the shops, that you are living the truth of Islam. You are not. You are behaving in an ugly and boorish manner, and this behavior is fodder for those who seek to portray Muslims as savages. And above all, do not fall into that trap of utopian nonsense which says that if the Muslims were simply to go back to the life of the seventh century A.D., then all would be well in the world, and we would all live in perfect contentment forevermore. This rejection of the modern world is not only profoundly silly and highly reactionary, it is dangerous.
And for the Western reader, I ask you not to fall into the trap of thinking that unkempt, unclean and loutish individuals who spout distorted religious speculations mixed with their own superstitions and cultural peculiarities as being wholly representative of Islam. They are not; overall, they are a minority. They get the attention they do simply because they manage to talk over everyone else. And do not fall into the trap of the anti-Muslim bigots; while they like to claim they are only opposed to “extremists” and “radicals,” they portray this vocal and extremist minority as representative of the entirety of Islam, when in fact the opposite is true. Extremists speak only for themselves; they are a majority only in their fevered delusions.
